Thinking About My Sockpal!

Upon seeing all of the updates on Alison's blog, I began thinking about my sockpal socks. The only guidance she sent, as I think I mentioned before, was wool or wool blend, and machine washable. I decided to use Lorna's Laces, and picked up two skeins of Mother Lode on Monday.

Pretty, isn't it? It caught my eye immediately. A very nice employee at the LYS was assisting me by pulling the LL out of a bin crampacked with LL and Koigu and said, "Do you see anything that appeals to you?" I replied that I was making the socks for someone I don't know. She laughed and said, "I thought you were going to say that you were making them for someone you don't like! If that were the case, I would have told you not to use Lorna's Laces!" Indeed.

Then I wondered if perhaps these colors were either too fall-ish or just not crowd pleasers generally. I remembered that I have some LL in the Seaside colorway in my stash.

So, what do you think, gentle readers? Mother Lode or Seaside?

That is really a tough call, but I would say Seaside, simply because it would go with more, being mostly blue to grey. You have one lucky sock pal, Laura!

Mother Lode, definitely. I'm not crazy about the paleness in Seaside.

I agree with bitterknitter that Seaside seems as if it would match with more. It's hard to say, if you don't know what colors your sockpal prefers, however! Which color would you prefer for yourself? ;)

Both are pretty but funny - I think Motherlode is more on the autumn scale. My favourite is therefore Seaside, love the name, love the colours! (Maybe I'm your pal ;-))

Oooh , they're both so pretty, but for me - I'm going with the Motherlode! (you can make the Seaside for me, though, if you really can't decide and want to make both)

Oh, tough choice. I really don't think you can go wrong with either one. But I lean a bit more toward Mother Lode.

I'm going through a purple phase, so I have to go with Motherlode. I just cast on my first Lorna's laces socks last night. Oh my... that's good yarn.

Just make one sock in motherlode and the other in seaside, it would put an end to all your debating. I like Seaside the best, but I'm sick of purple right now.

I don't think you could possibly go wrong with either of them. I love purple, so of course, I'd pick motherlode... Lucky sockpal!

Seaside. Although to choose between two LL colorways is almost physically painful for me...

Both are gorgeous, but I think the Motherlode -- it has such a nice range of colors that it should pair beautifully with all sorts of things.

Motherlode. But then if anything has purple or red, it always gets my vote.

Didn't your sockpal say what colors she/he liked? (I don't know how these sock pal things work.)

Both are really pretty, but I really like the Seaside.
I thought I was being all "easy" and didn't specify anything for my sockpal - I hope she's not stressing!

You definitely hit the Mother Lode with that one!! ;-) I think they're both really pretty... Seaside is more of a subtle and demure beauty, whereas Mother Lode is...well... aptly named. ;-) You know I'm not a big purple fan myself, but even so, I find myself undeniably drawn to Mother Lode. I love the rich and regal colorway, but I think either way, your sock pal is going to be one happy girl!! Take care, Miss L! :-)

Seriously, they are both gorgeous. I don't think you can go wrong!

are you sorry you asked? LOL! looks like people are split on this decision. I say, if you bought seaside because you liked it for yourself, keep it for yourself! you're not being selfish, because after all, sockpal is getting Lorna's Laces, and you can't go wrong there (as so many have already pointed out).

I definitely like them both. But I think I like the motherlode best. Hmmm...I think I'm a little jealous of Laura's sock pal!

I'd knit the sea-side socks, and then keep them for myself! Love that colour!
