J'ai Deux Amours

Dear Wool Winder and Swift,

How did I ever live without you both? I am actually sort of glad that Mr. A sat on the birthday gift hint of the STR Sock Club until it was too late. So instead of more sock yarn, I asked for and got the two of you.

Each of you is a little marvel of ingenuity, but together! You impressed even my dad and Mr. A, who are rarely moved by anything related to fiber.

Thanks to you, no more tangled messes of, as Chrissy would say, yarn barf. Thanks to you, no more precious knitting time wasted winding balls by hand. Now, in just a few minutes I can have these neat little bundles of beauty.

You have eliminated the second yuckiest job in knitting, next to weaving in ends, and for that I love you so much I want to marry you. Sigh.

Gratefully,
Laura

Ok, that nfy at the end of my comment is because the cursor jumped back up when I was entering the word verification. Please do not spend any time trying to figure out what nfy stands for. ;o)

That's a cool swift. I haven't seen one like that before. I have the "umbrella" kind.

I can't tell you what a relief it is to know that I'm not the only girl having a love affair with her ball winder.

Where did you get the swift?

I managed without either for years, and then bought a swift and a nosti--much better, but still . . . eventually I caved and got a ball winder. I don't know what took me so long!

Aren't they the most wonderful inventions! Watch out, or you'll have all your yarn wound into those little cakes before you know it.

Birthday? BirthdIay??? When was your birthday?? I am a jealous girl, although I know that if I were to buy a swift and a ball winder, it would just be an incentive to buy more yarn that I do not need! I think of my handwinding as a deterrent. :-)

Okay, first: If your ball winder and swift accept your proposal and you end up being a polygamist promise me you'll invite me to the wedding. 'cuz I gotta see that.

Second: I've had my ball winder since about a month after I learned to knit. I wouldn't be the knitter I am today without it ;o) Congrats on getting yours!

P.S. I just got my STR package...would 'neener neener' be a mean thing to say right now? ;o)

What a good husband -- the mark of an excellent gift is when the giver really doesn't get why it's so important, but gives it anyway.

And the phrase "yarn barf" makes me giggle.

I loved my ball winder - then I got my swift. I don't know how I lived without it! I'm still amazed every time I use them together. nfy (Sonya started it!)

I love your swift on a stand. I have to clamp mine on to the side of the table and it's never very steady.

Happy, Happy Birthday, Laura!!! I'm so happy that you found your true love. ;-) Isn't it funny how serendipity came into play? STR would have been a very nice gift, but a ball winder and swift is a gift that keeps on giving. I recently broke down and ordered a winder (actually I did so at the dreadful prospect of having to hand wind 1200 yards of laceweight for the Sampler Stole, LOL!) and I love it! I'll live vicariously and admire your swift from afar. ;-) Hope you had a wonderful birthday celebration... big hugs to you!! Happy Birthday, Laura!!! :-)
