Well, Maybe Not

I started my blue-grey-white embroidered girl. I'm not very happy with how it's turning out. I tried to do a kind of long-and-short stitch on her skirt. The result is that it looks as though it is covered with feathers. Also, I thought it would be cool to use more than one color of blue in the skirt, and that doesn't look so great either. As my torts professor would say, "Too clever by four-fifths."

The top part's pretty nice.

"Young Girl Attending an Improving Lecture"

But, the bottom?

"Appearing Nightly at the Copa!"

Not so much.

I like the effect but maybe not what you were going for.

It doesn't look bad, but I can see how it's a bit too "heavy" for the cute little girl. What do you do when you want to take it out? does it leave little holes, so you kinda have to start over? or will it all get filled in anyway? i'm totally ignorant of embroidery.

I for one think it is adorable. Her mama might make her attend improving lectures, but she's going to sneak out at night and tango!

It's not that bad at all - stick with it and see how it looks when you've completed the whole piece...

It is a bit heavy for that cloth. May be if you use less strands of floss it will be better. Just make it a little lighter in coverage. It's okay if the fabric shows through a little.

i had always been under the impression that embroidery would be really easy. then i tried it, and everything my embroidery thread touched turned to crap. i'm sticking with buying vintage embroidered linens for now.
i like how it's coming out, but really, my opinion isn't all that valuable. :)

My vote: keep embroidering. She's elegant in black and blue. With the "heavy" thread, she'd make a nice pillow top. Unless you have your heart set on framing for the wall . . .
