Beret! Yay!

It only took me two weeks, but here's the final FO picture for the Tweed Beret. I love you, blocking! It's been seriously cold here lately, with snow as well, so the beret has been seeing lots of action. I luff it.

Adjusting to single parenting, working, looking for a law firm job, the holidays, and divorce issues are tending to sap my knitting and blogging time. And my sewing machine? She is so neglected. But I am not giving up!

I have been thinking about doing a little crafty housecleaning ... I anticipate this involving a lot of frogging. If a project sits around unfinished at my house, it's usually because I have become bored with it. Since my time is so limited, I need to reassess how I choose projects. Having lots of works-in-progress used to be fun. Now those half-finished cardigans and socks knit to the heel flaps are just items on a to-do list, and not particularly pleasant ones at that. After my brutal frogging session, I want to finish up the things that make the cut. Then, a New Year's Resolution -- try to be a project monogamist.

Fresh starts. We're all about fresh starts around here.

Pretty beret! Okay now I *have* to run out and get Interweave Crochet so I can have the beret they have in the most recent issue, lol.

Hooray for the crafty housecleaning :) Just don't start freaking out at the lack of a to-do list like I did after 3 to 5 hours of solid crochet time each week at Phoenix started finishin up projects really fast.

Loooove your beret!

And let me tell you: single parenting is such an advantage when it comes to knitting: noone to steal your time away from knitting once the kids are in bed. (well apart, of course, the neverending paperwork, jobhunting etc).

Wishing you all the best for your fresh starts! Coming from another knitting single mom (always been a single mom, though... kicked him out during pregnancy, after he tried to beat me to death).

I am totally with you on project monogamy in 08. It's the only way I can get anything done. I don't know if I can bear the frogging, but I'm going to try to finish up lingering projects one by one.

Good luck with everything. It sounds like you are making great progress with your fresh starts :)

Ooh, I admire your singlemindedness! It will feel good to do that kind of frogging, to complement all your other fresh starts. And you have a saucy new beret to start the new year with. Stay warm, sugar!

Its a lovely beret - I wonder if it would be flattering on me? (Pondering)

Good luck with the fresh start. I was working outside of the home full-time (lawyer too) until recently, and it really does enforce some project discipline.

I've been all about the frogging recently. It means I actually get done the stuff I want to. Good luck!

I love the hat. The swirl on top is very pretty. Best wished on all the new starts. Just think of all the new balls of yarn you will have!

Knitting should be about pleasing yourself, not about slogging through a dreaded to-do list. Good for you for figuring that out.

For what it's worth, you are becoming one wise woman through your struggles. A wise woman with one awesome hat, to boot.

that hat looks divine on you.

good luck with all of the business of life, which is so often not fun. no need for crafty projects to become chores too-- i will likely join you in your resolution! i'm sure it will feel good just to let go and only do things you're really excited about.

I just read another blogger doing the same fresh slate - frogging unloved projects and becoming monogamous. I am going to ponder that over the next few weeks and, who knows, I might do the same thing!

Your beret is f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s! I am actually getting ready to make that exact pattern for my DD in Donegal Tweed for Christmas. Hope it is a quick knit!

Wow! Not everyone can rock a beret. But you? Yes. You were meant to be wearing that awesome beret. It looks great!

Also, this is very weird -- but the first thing I thought this morning as I was waking up was that I should frog a scarf I made and turn it into a better scarf. And I don't ever do that kind of stuff. I guess it's in the air. Hooray!

Great beret! If you really want to clean house, you should also sell off your unwanted post-frogging-event yarn. Unwanted yarn. Nope. It doesn't sound any more plausible the second time around.

Great beret!

I was thinking about you last night, for some reason. Divorce and holidays and kids can be a tough combination; I hope everything goes well and your new start clears your head and your house of unfinished objects. :-)

super cute beret! frogging can be very cathartic - in more ways than just getting rid of an unfinished UFO .... :)

I'm all for fresh starts, but project monogamy?! Well, I hope that works out for you... (insert big, cheesy grin)

Happy knitting,

I love this picture of you--that it's a clear shot of your face as you make this fresh start. Like, you're looking the situation full in the face and are embracing it and looking fabulous doing it! I'm a total dork, too, so I'm hearing the Friday Night Lights mantra: Clear Eyes, Full Hearts--CAN'T LOSE! And wishing you all the best in the coming year, because you totally deserve it. I'm a monogamous knitter myself, but that doesn't mean I don't have UFOs all over the place, too.

Ok, I was late to find your beret post, but it's lovely :)!

The color brings out your eyes and I love the twisted rib increase/detail on the brim!
